What to Look For
Not all non-alcoholic champagnes are created equal. Here’s what to consider:
Flavor Profile: Look for notes that mimic traditional champagne—crisp apple, pear, and hints of citrus are popular.
Quality Ingredients: Seek out brands that use high-quality grape juice or de-alcoholized wine for an authentic experience.
Bubbles: The carbonation should feel luxurious, not flat or overpowering.
Packaging: A gorgeous bottle elevates the experience, especially for gifting or special occasions.
Where to Buy
Non-alcoholic champagne is becoming more widely available. Don't be afraid to ask the staff! Sometimes the NA options are not easy to find. Here are some great spots to shop:
Specialty Stores: Local wine shops often carry a selection of non-alcoholic beverages.
Online Retailers: I love The Zero Proof! It's where I get all my non-alcoholic wine. Use code MOCKTAILGIRLIE for 15% off!
Grocery Stores: Many larger chains, like Whole Foods and Target now stock non-alcoholic sparkling wines. Check your local grocery store, too!!
"But isn't there still alcohol in these?"
Non-alcoholic wine is defined as wine that contains less than 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV). For comparison, this is a trace amount of alcohol, similar to what you’d find in some kombuchas or even certain fruit juices due to natural fermentation. It's made by creating traditional wine and then removing the alcohol, so you still get the complex flavors, aromas, and experience of wine—just without the intoxicating effects.
The labeling of non-alcoholic wine as "<0.5% ABV" is required because even though the alcohol is almost entirely removed during production, it's nearly impossible to eliminate every single trace of alcohol. A tiny amount may remain due to the fermentation process, which is a natural part of making wine.
Regulatory agencies, like the FDA in the U.S., require this disclaimer to ensure transparency and inform consumers who may want or need to avoid alcohol completely. This threshold (<0.5%) is considered so minimal that it doesn't produce intoxicating effects, making it safe for most people, including those who are sober or avoiding alcohol.
Some NA wines on the market are completely 0.0%, too!
Here's my list of recommended Non-Alcoholic Champagnes:
Noughty Sparkling Chardonnay (<0.5% ABV)
This is a favorite of mine! It's dry and super bubbly. It tastes like champagne NOT apple cider. It's not overly sweet which I like. This is a Spanish Chardonnay. Bright, crisp green apple flavor with a light touch of sweetness.
Surely Brut (<0.5% ABV)
A great bottle-popping option! Again, I love Surely and all the wines they make so I was so excited to try this one. It has Lemon, peach, and passion fruit flavors. Perfect for mimosas.
Lyre's Classico (0.0)
This is the NA prosecco I always recommend. Get yourself a case of this (especially for the holidays!) It's my go-to for a lot of my batch mocktails or really any recipe that needs a sweeter sparkling wine. It comes in a bottle as well as single-serve cans! With classic green apple tartness followed by a soft richness of pear, peach, and red apple on the palate to taste.
Mionetto Non-Alcoholic Prosecco (<0.5% ABV)
This is the NA prosecco is another favorite of mine! This is one you can easily find in most grocery stores or wine and beer locations! This is crafted with Italian grapes to deliver a light and refreshing taste with delicate notes of sweet peach and apple. It's not sweet at all, slightly dry and tart. Great for NA mimosas, too!
Joyus Sparkling Wine (<0.5% ABV)
This one has won awards up against alcoholic wine!! So you neeeeed to try Joyus! With notes of crisp green apple, fragrant fall pear, and a ripe melon finish, these flavors are delicious.
Oddbird Blanc de Blancs (<0.5% ABV)
So many great reviews for this one and I can confirm. If I didn't know this was non-alcoholic, I probably would have no idea! It's such a great pour of bubbly and flavor. It's crisp, refreshing, absolutely delicious!
Gruvi Dry Secco (0.0)
A great option for those avoiding all alcohol. This comes in a single-serve glass bottle which I love. Gruvi was one of the first sparkling wines I've tried.
*TÖST Sparkling Beverage (Tea based - 0.0)
Another great option if you're looking for an alcohol-free option. I love that this is tea-based. It's such a great way to enjoy a bubbly drink with great flavors and feel great in the morning. There is caffeine in here but not any more than you would find in decaf coffee.
FRE Brut (<0.5% ABV)
I love this option for mimosas or for a night of sipping champagne. This one you can typically find at the grocery store or even Target!
Giesen Brut (<0.5% ABV)
This is the NA prosecco is another favorite of mine! This is one you can easily find in most grocery stores or wine and beer locations! This is crafted with Italian grapes to deliver a light and refreshing taste with delicate notes of sweet peach and apple. It's not sweet at all, slightly dry and tart. Great for NA mimosas, too!
